Dear Employees, Volunteers, Board Members and Supporters of Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County,
It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the devastating news that our former CEO, Carolyn Vermont, passed away while visiting her beloved Jamaica.
Carolyn guided Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County through the difficult years of COVID and worked tirelessly to keep Habitat's mission at the forefront of every conversation both locally, across our state and even around the nation. Everyone who met her could feel her passion for Habitat CFC and the families that we serve. She not only guided Habitat CFC during its move into its new facility in Stratford, but also was at the forefront on innovative ways for Habitat CFC to expand its mission to build affordable housing throughout our Fairfield County service area. Her guidance and vision of innovative ways to approach building affordable housing and serving the families in need will continue to be the framework for our organization's work throughout Fairfield County.
As many of you know, Carolyn's presence has been felt throughout Bridgeport and all the surrounding towns for years and her impact will continue to be felt in the culture, programs, and partnerships that serve our community into the future. We know her presence will be missed.
Many of you had the privilege of working alongside Carolyn and experiencing her passion firsthand. We recognize that this news may be especially difficult for those who shared a close professional or personal connection with her, and we hold space for your grief during this time.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Carolyn's family, friends, and loved ones. We are deeply grateful for the time, vision, and dedication she has given to this organization.
With sympathy and respect,
Bruce D. Jackson, Chairman
Board of Directors
