Core Volunteer (1-2 Days Per Week)

Habitat CFC relies on the daily support of our Core Volunteers; men and women who have a regular volunteer commitment within the organization. Most Core volunteers commit anywhere from 1-2 times a week both on our Construction build sites and in our ReStore. In this role, you will assist Habitat CFC in creating affordable homes on the construction sites. Construction Core volunteers work under the supervision of our Site Supervisors alongside other volunteer groups and future Habitat CFC homeowners.   • Core Construction Volunteer Description

    Purpose: More families can be serviced when there are more homes being built. It is important to build homes as fast as possible because the families live in substandard housing and it is imperative that they move into a safer home.

    Qualifications
    - Physical labor intensive, ability to work in hot and cold weather conditions.
    - Strong work ethic.
    - Ability to lead groups.
    - Construction experience preferred, but not required.

    Time frame
    - Must be able to contribute 1-2 days per week (Tuesday-Saturday) from 8:30am-3:30pm for a minimum of two months.

    Site
    1785 Stratford Avenue, Stratford, CT 06615 (note: volunteers will check in here and work at a variety of the homes being constructed. These homes are all located in Bridgeport and Fairfield, CT and we do not provide transportation to and from the worksites).

    Supervision
    - Layla Cerverizzo: Volunteer Services Coordinator, oversees volunteer program.
    - Matthew Slattery: Director of Construction, assigns volunteers to work sites.
    - Site Supervisors will be on site directly supervising the volunteers.

  • Core Restore Volunteer Description

    In this role, you will volunteer alongside ReStore staff and assist with day-to-day tasks.
    Responsibilities may include:

    - Organizing incoming donations
    - Assembling donated furniture
    - Testing donated appliances
    - Helping staff load purchased furniture for customers
