Future Homeowner
Andrea is currently living in a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. She transformed her home into a three-bedroom by converting the living room and dining room so that her grandchildren could move in with her after their mother suddenly passed away.
Andrea eagerly anticipates becoming a new Habitat CFC homeowner. She says that what she is most excited for is, "A new beginning and cooking in a new kitchen. I want to offer my grandchildren an opportunity to grow in a neighborhood experience. To settle themselves and make lifelong friendships.
I grew up in a house, my parents were homeowners in Atlanta, GA. It offered me a neighborhood experience.
This opportunity means a dream come true. It means a new beginning and brighter future for my grandchildren."
"I am humbled by this experience. Even though it is a grand opportunity for me, I know, I would not be here today without God's Grace and His Mercy."
After completing her seat equity hours and purchasing her new home, she says, "I will look out my own window in my new home and feel accomplished. I struggled financially because my credit score was very low and I was transitioning from a divorce. Financially, it was very hard. I was just finishing my Masters, suffered an injury, and experienced low wages. Owning my own home will offer financial stability as I will not have to worry about my cost of rent going up every year.
As a renter, I have paid over $130,000 over the past decade residing in one place. When I become a homeowner, my grandchildren will learn about finances, budgeting, responsibility and keeping things tidy. Also, they'll learn what it means to thrive in an American society -- owning a home is a miracle for my grandchildren. The kids will feel loved and stable. This is a labor of love."
