Build Goodwill and Visibility within the Community
Team Build Days include recognition opportunities such as featuring your company and employee build day photos on our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) with your hashtag for cross-promoting. Your company will also be included in our Annual Report and in a listing on our website. Your company’s recognition can also be customized based on your company’s needs.
A Small Investment for Big Rewards!
Though the members of your group will provide the muscle, your company’s sponsorship of the Build Day, starting at $3,000 for ten employees, is what enables Habitat CFC to secure materials, equipment and supervision and prepare our families to purchase their Habitat built home below cost with a zero interest mortgage. For larger groups or multiple Build Days, please contact our Volunteer Services Coordinator.

Collegiate Challenge
Looking for a more meaningful way to spend your school vacation?
Collegiate Challenge is a year-round alternative break program offering groups of five or more participants a unique opportunity to give back in a substantial way while having fun building on the construction site and experiencing a new city. It’s not just for Spring Break and it’s not just for college students.
Fairfield County, Connecticut is comprised of beautiful cities and towns with a housing market and cost of living among the highest in the nation. Unfortunately, this has earned the County the distinction of having the largest income gap between the wealthy and the not so wealthy of any county in the US. These facts point to the critical need for decent, affordable housing for hard-working local families. Habitat for Humanity has built nearly 300 houses in its 39 years and currently has 13 homes under construction, so there is always a variety of work to match the interests and skills of all. Housing is provided for participants at either a local community center or church. Bridgeport is a waterfront community that was formerly a leader of industry. Known as the Park City, Bridgeport is in the midst of an historic transformation and revitalization with beautiful beaches and parks, new stores and restaurants, the Beardsley Zoo, Barnum Museum and the Discovery Adventure Park. The city is a short, one-hour train ride to NYC.
Habitat CFC is currently accepting Collegiate Challenge groups for the Winter, Spring and Summer of 2025! To learn more, please email Layla Cerverizzo, Volunteer Services Coordinator at lcerverizzo@habitatcfc.org or call at (203) 333-2642 x119

Volunteer FAQs
-
What if it rains/snows?
We build in all types of weather all year long! We will do everything possible to relocate you to an indoor task in bad weather, but this may not always be possible, so please dress appropriately!
-
Where should we meet?
Volunteers should meet at our headquarters located at 1785 Stratford Avenue, Stratford, CT 06615 by 8:00am. The volunteer entrance is the door furthest to the left on the building. The workday will be from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
-
What time should we meet/how will the day go?
--Volunteers begin arriving at the warehouse around 8:00am to sign-in and make nametags, complete any paperwork and to help load the trucks if necessary.
-- Our Opening in Bridgeport will begin at 8:30 am and then everyone will be dispersed to the sites in groups of about 10, depending on the task. It is important that everyone is present for the opening/safety talk.
-- Volunteers will drive their vehicles to the construction sites. We strongly recommend carpooling as most sites have limited parking. We have safe parking at the Operations Center.
-- Lunch is around 12:00 and is an hour. It is the responsibility of the group or individual volunteer to make lunch arrangements. We can make recommendations if you’d like to order lunch.
-- You are all welcome to have lunch back at the warehouse where we have indoor plumbing!
-- The day ends about 3:00 pm. -
What will I be doing?
-- Tasks you can anticipate doing: painting, siding, rough framing; trim work, landscaping, fencing.
-- Please note that we work with individuals of all or no skills levels.
-- We have professional project managers who are patient, nurturing and willing to teach.
-- There is a task for EVERYONE regardless of your ability! You can do more than you think.
-- Please note that we keep groups to about 10 volunteers for safety and productivity. We know that you want to be productive and no one wants to give up their day to be standing around waiting or watching. -
How should I dress?
-- Dress as stated earlier—for the weather! Also, wear clothes that you do not care too much about. Because this is construction, clothes can get dirty, painted or otherwise ruined.
-- SUNSCREEN, even in the winter!
-- Wear hard, thick soled shoes—work boots are best! NO OPEN-TOED SHOES!!! -
What should I bring?
IT IS NOT REQUIRED THAT YOU BRING TOOLS, HOWEVER, if you have them you may bring your own. If you do bring tools, please label everything with your name and take them home with you when you leave!
-
What are my responsibilities as a volunteer?
Habitat CFC relies on volunteers to help us accomplish our goal of providing affordable homeownership opportunities to low-income families in Fairfield County. In order to ensure a safe and productive environment for our work, volunteers are responsible for meeting our expectations to the best of their ability. Conduct that is not in line with the mission and core values of Habitat CFC will not be tolerated. In the event an altercation or dispute occurs on the worksite or in the warehouse, the individual will be asked to leave immediately and may not be allowed to return to work. The Director of Construction will be informed of the situation and ultimately determine the course of action to take.
