In a momentous step towards addressing the enduring challenges faced by Black individuals seeking homeownership in our communities, we are thrilled to present the newly established “Advancing Black Homeownership Advisory Committee.” This committee is comprised of esteemed individuals deeply committed to promoting equitable homeownership opportunities, bridging disparities, and nurturing a brighter future for Black families across the nation. Their collective expertise and unwavering dedication make them true champions in the pursuit of homeownership equality.

Meet the Esteemed Committee Members:

  1. Jillian Baldwin, CEO & President of Bridgeport Housing Authority: As a fervent housing advocate and community leader, Jillian Baldwin has tirelessly worked to create affordable housing solutions. Her passion for empowering marginalized communities makes her an invaluable asset to the committee as she strives to dismantle barriers to Black homeownership.
  2. Pastor Brenda Barnes, Faith Gospel Assembly Ministries : Revered as a spiritual leader and community organizer, Rev. Brenda Barnes brings a distinctive perspective to the committee. Her commitment to social justice and her ability to mobilize resources will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in expanding access to homeownership opportunities.
  3. Charles Scott, Sr., President Tri-state Realty: Possessing a remarkable background in real estate and financial planning, Charles Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the committee. As a seasoned professional, he is dedicated to offering guidance and strategies that empower Black families to realize their homeownership dreams.
  4. Donald Smart, Esq.: As an accomplished attorney specializing in housing and civil rights, Donald Smart, Esq., is a legal luminary whose expertise will be instrumental in advocating for policies that promote homeownership equality. His dedication to upholding justice serves as a beacon of hope for countless Black families.

Mission and Objectives:

The Advancing Black Homeownership Advisory Committee aims to address the enduring racial disparities in homeownership through:

  1. Advocating for Policy Reform: The committee will work diligently to influence legislation and policies that dismantle systemic barriers to Black homeownership. Their legal, financial, and advocacy acumen will be channeled towards creating a more equitable housing landscape.
  2. Empowering and Educating: Through educational programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives, the committee intends to empower Black communities with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the homeownership process successfully. Financial literacy and homeownership education will be at the forefront of their efforts.
  3. Fostering Community Engagement: By fostering collaboration between community organizations, financial institutions, and government agencies, the committee aims to create a unified front against housing discrimination and inequality.
  4. Promoting Affordable Housing Initiatives: The committee will support and develop initiatives that promote affordable housing, making homeownership a tangible reality for Black families across the country.
