STRATFORD, CT – The Wells Fargo Foundation has awarded $15,000 in funding to Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County to support the construction of a new affordable Habitat home on Greenfield Street in the Town of Fairfield. Habitat CFC is one of 179 local Habitat for Humanity affiliates awarded grant funding through the 2024 Wells Fargo Builds program to increase access to affordable homes across the U.S.

The grant to Habitat CFC will directly support the material costs for one of four new affordable homes currently under construction at 240-246 Greenfield Street in the Town of Fairfield. This development is Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County’s first project in Fairfield, extending its mission into a community where it has not yet provided new, affordable homeownership opportunities. While the organization has great success creating affordable housing in other areas of Fairfield County, this is an exciting milestone for the Town of Fairfield—one that opens the door to future possibilities.

On September 13, 2024, Wells Fargo volunteers joined Habitat CFC to install siding onto the property.

Carolyn Vermont, CEO of Habitat CFC stated, “We are incredibly grateful to the Wells Fargo Foundation for their generous support, which allows us to bring our mission of affordable homeownership to the Town of Fairfield for the first time. This grant will not only help build a home but also help strengthen the community. We’re excited to partner with Wells Fargo volunteers to make the dream of homeownership a reality for low-income, working families in our service area.”

At least one in six Connecticut households spend over half of their income on housing and the number of Bridgeport families who are struggling to afford rent is on the rise.

This funding is part of a $6.375 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International through the 2024 Wells Fargo Builds program to help support more than 290 families in communities nationwide.
