Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County’s (Habitat CFC) Youth United will hold a Groundbreaking Ceremony on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. (rain or shine) at 84 Maple Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut, the future site of the youth group’s fourth single-family home for the Pamphile family.

The Pamphile family learned about Habitat CFC’s home ownership program in 2013. Wesley and his wife, Hattie, have four children ages 5-12. Before their acceptance into the Habitat homeownership program, the Pamphiles lived in one of the city’s housing projects in a substandard, two-bedroom apartment with black mold. For the family, it was unhealthy to stay indoors and not the best environment to raise the children. Their new home will be built with safe, energy-efficient materials and located within the Eastern Bridgeport Historic District, which has direct access to parks and playgrounds. The funds for the home’s building materials were raised by members of Youth United through car washes, making and selling craft items, bottle/can-recycling program, and a basketball scoring contest.

“It is fitting that the next Youth United home will be built for the Pamphile family. Wesley, Hattie and the kids were instrumental in our fundraising for this home as well as getting Kohl’s involved in our activities,” said Tamya Olufowobi, President of Youth United. “It was a win-win-win for everyone,” Olufowobi added.

“In addition to the $50,000 raised by our members, Youth United received a $10,000 matching gift grant from State Farm Insurance Company, which was applied to the donations received for this home,” explained Phyllis Machledt, Habitat CFC Board Member and Co-Advisor for Youth United.
