The Pope Francis House Wall Raising September 2nd!
Upcoming Event- The Pope Francis House Wall Raising September 2nd!
Join us as we lift the walls on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (rain or shine) at 51 George Street, Bridgeport, CT, the future site of Habitat CFC’s Pope Francis House. The Wall Raising will begin with a brief program followed by an actual “wall raising” which will be done by representatives from local educational institutions, working alongside Habitat volunteers and families. With the Pope’s arrival in the United States this month, Bridgeport is able to mark this momentous occasion with a Wall Raising for a house named in his honor.
You can help by volunteering or just come to watch as some heavy lifting turns a foundation into a house!

President Jimmy Carter
Habitat CFC has learned of President Carter’s announcement regarding his health.
The thoughts and prayers of the entire Habitat for Humanity family go out to President and Mrs. Carter as he begins his treatment.
Each year since 1984, President and Mrs. Carter have given a week of their time to help us improve and build homes around the world. Their efforts help raise awareness of the critical need for simple, decent and affordable housing.
We will keep Habitat friends and family informed on President Carter’s progress.

Join Habitat CFC at Our Next Home Dedication Saturday, June 27th!
Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County (Habitat CFC) will hold a Double Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, June 27, 2015 from 2:30 until 4:00p.m. The future home of the Dian Mitchell family will be 101 James Street and the Pierre Mbay family will be 103 James Street.
The Double Dedication Ceremony will begin at 2:30p.m., Habitat CFC and House Sponsors will speak followed by a prayer of dedication from Reverend Pleasant McGowan, presentation of gifts (bible, quilt house keys), the Habitat tradition of blessing of the tithe house and the homeowners’ remarks. After the ceremony, the families will welcome attendees into their new homes for a meal they have prepared.
Native of Democratic Republic of the Congo, Pierre Mbay and his wife Yvonne Lufuluabo, along with their family Mangabu (22), Miandabu (19), Musau (14) and Muya (12) relocated to Bridgeport after leaving a refugee camp where they had been living since 2007. The International Institute of Connecticut (IIConn) helped the family with their relocation. Ms. Lufuluabo said,“The house is beautiful. When we move on to James Street, the money we will pay through the Habitat program will allow us to be able to save for college and other expenses and finally own our own home. We can’t wait to move in and become homeowners in this neighborhood.”
Since she came to Connecticut from Jamaica in 1999 to make a better life for her family, Dian Mitchell has been the lighthouse for her three sons, Nickolas (21), Paedian (14) and Jeremy (11). With determination and confidence, she demonstrates the value of hard work and sacrifice, working overnight as a stocker at Walmart, on the weekends as a cashier in the Café at Sacred Heart University and waitressing part-time during school breaks. Working with the volunteers on build sites as part of her 500 sweat equity hours has deepened Dian’s resolve and appreciation for the teamwork involved in building all of the Habitat CFC houses. As Dian said, “The dream is to own in America, my dream is now on the way!”
